Recycling and Politics, A New Era?

The Non-Ferrous Metals Division under the presidency of David Chiao, Uni-All Group Ltd (USA), has put together a varied programme with two guest presentations and a panel discussion on recent political and market development.

On Monday, 28 May 2018 at 10.45, Josep Berdejo, Director International Business of La Farga, Spain will speak on “Current and future developments of the copper market in Spain and worldwide”. Founded in 1808, La Farga is a metallurgy company that manufactures and sells semi-finished copper products and their alloys for the electrical, metal packaging, railway, tubes, automotive, billets and special conductors markets. Present worldwide, they have three production plants in Spain, La Farga Lacambra, La Farga Tub, La Farga Rod, one in the US, SDI La Farga, and two copper pipe distribution centres, one in France (La Farga Tub France) and another in England (La Farga Limited). La Farga is a world leader in recycling technology and, thanks to their technology and pending patent, they  have sold their expertise in more than 30 plants worldwide.

Ion Olaeta, Director General of the recycling division of Otua Group (Spain), will give a presentation on “The impact of new Chinese & US import policies: a Spanish recycler’s point of view”. Otual Group is one of the leading metal recycling companies in Europe with 40 years of experience and a large productive capacity position. The Group is formed of eight companies and dedicated to Recycling, Distribution, and Research with a total of over 200 employees. Mr Olaeta is also President of the Spanish Recycling Federation FER.

After the two presentations, and in light of the recent developments in China, the panel discussion on the topic “Recycling and Politics, a New Era?” will focus on the geopolitical implications that increasingly affect the recycling business.  Moderated by Alejandro Jaramillo (Glorem SC, Mexico) and with an introduction by Leopoldo Clemente (LCD Trading, Italy) the following panellists will contribute to the interactive exchange: David Chiao (China), Dhawal Shah (Metco Marketing, India), Andy Wahl (TAV Holdings Inc.,USA), Mogens Christensen (H.J. Hansen Recycling Industry, Denmark/Europe) and Ibrahim Aboura (Aboura Metals, UAE / Middle-East).
