BIR announcement - Decease of Mr John Crabb
John Crabb
It is with great sadness that we have to inform our members of the decease of Mr John Crabb (71), former Chief Executive of Sims Ltd Australia (a BIR member company) and past President of the BIR Ferrous Division.
John Crabb was known throughout the international recycling community not only for his position at the head of the world’s largest metal recycler but also for his great personality. A British national and first division football player, he went to Australia in his youth with his wife, Christine, and was taken on by Simsmetal as a trainee. Years later he became the company’s Chief Executive and was instrumental in the flotation of Sims on the Australian Stock Exchange, thereby paving its way to become a truly global company and the largest metals recycler in the world.
John will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
BIR expresses its deepest sympathy to his wife, children and grandchildren.
The funeral will be on Friday, 25th February 2011 at 11.00 am at Magnolia Chapel, Macquarie Park, Delhi Road, North Ryde 2113. (Instead of flowers you may want to consider a donation to the Alzheimers Association, nat.donations@alzheimers.org.au).
