“Steel Scrap – A Raw Material for Steelmaking”

For the first time, the BIR Ferrous Division has published data on worldwide steel recycling, providing a novel statistical overview for steel scrap, an increasingly important commodity.

The survey, which was carried out by former divisional General Delegate Rolf Willeke, is based on a calculation model developed in cooperation with the German steel association Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl. It gives a very accurate reflexion of a market that so far was mainly characterised by approximate estimates rather than reliable figures.

This initiative is in line with BIR’s policy to increasingly focus on providing statistical overviews for all its commodities.

The data will be updated electronically every six months and a new edition of the booklet is planned once a year, after each BIR Spring Convention.

A pdf version of the document is available on the BIR website.
