BIR publishes first issue of non-ferrous statistics

BIR is happy to announce the publication of its first non-ferrous metals statistics, the “Global Non-Ferrous Scrap Flows 2000-2011, with a focus in Aluminium and Copper”, the revised version of a study prepared by CRU at the end of 2012.

The document, which is part of the BIR statistics series “BIR Global Facts & Figures”, represents the first edition of the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division’s statistical overview of a sector which is inherently difficult to monitor with regards to reliable data on international material flows.

The goal of this 64-page report is to provide an understanding of these material flows in the context of the economic developments of the industry between 2000 and 2011. Copper and aluminium were chosen as ‘reference commodities’ as they are the two largest non-ferrous metals in terms of both material tonnages and market value.

This new initiative is in line with BIR’s objective to increasingly focus on providing statistical overviews for all its commodities.
