BIR Rome Convention

Plastics Committee

Plenary meeting addresses problem of scrap exports from Italy (of interest to all BIR members)

During its upcoming plenary session in Rome on Friday, 1 June 2012 at 14.30, the BIR Plastics Committee under the chairmanship of Surendra Borad (Gemini Corporation, Belgium) will give a highly interesting update on the situation with regards to scrap exports from Italy. In April, BIR had informed its members on an Italian decree that added new requirements to the previous regulation and seriously affected shipments of recyclables from Italy, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals scrap, to countries outside the EU.

Mr Stefano Fiore, Export Sales Manager of the Italian company Logistics Group s.r.l. will explain the situation in his presentation entitled “Italian scrap export, the logistics, the customs, the challenges”.

His company mainly deals with ferrous and non ferrous metal scrap, plastics, in containers and in conventional holds, steel alloys, aluminium, copper, brass, bronze, tin and lead but also chemicals etc. Their services include all logistics and administrative matters for import, export and warehousing.

A second guest presentation will be given by Mr Alessandro Danesi, Managing Director of Stena Metall (Italy) on “Stena Technoworld experience in export of WEEE fractions from Italy.” Mr Danesi will summarise how Stena became the leader on the Italian WEEE market and the challenges they are facing with regards to exports.

Mr Danesi joined Stena Metall in 2008, just after the start-up of Stena Technoworld in Italy, as Business Development Manager, taking the position of MD of all Italian operations in middle 2011, running the integration of the 5 companies acquired during last years.
