PRESIDENT'S OPENING REMARKS

Dear friends and colleagues,
These will be my last opening remarks in the World Mirror as President of the BIR’s Ferrous Division as my successor will be elected during the forthcoming BIR Convention in Paris. My term comes to an end after eight years spanning a very bullish boom, then years of crisis and chaos, and more recently a recovery phase and stagnation. All in all, it has been an interesting time and I have enjoyed serving BIR and our industry during perhaps some of its most challenging years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you - BIR members, the BIR staff in Brussels and the BIR’s officers - for their constant support and help during the last eight years.
Last but not least, I have to inform you with great sadness that our colleague and good friend Blake Kelley passed away earlier this month. Bill Schmiedel, Vice President of SIMS Metal Management and a member of the Ferrous Division board, has expressed his thoughts and sadness in words I would like to share with you (...)
