BIR World Mirror on Non-Ferrous Metals - Issue April 2015
Fascinating programme devised for Dubai
After months of dedicated effort for the Dubai Convention working group, involving numerous emails, conference calls and brainstorming sessions, we have finalised our divisional programme. I would like to express my appreciation for all their hard work.
We will have two speakers at our meeting in Dubai: Mohan Agarwal of CMR, one of India’s leading aluminium smelters; and Nasser Aboura of Aboura Metals in the UAE, one of the region’s top scrap operations. The programme will follow a forum discussion format, open to feedback from the floor, and I am sure it will be very interesting to all delegates.
For many of our senior board members, their time in office is about to expire and so some new faces will be introduced to the Non-Ferrous Metals Division board.
Representative positions for some regions remain open as of today and Nominating Committee members are working to fill them.
As regards developments affecting our industry, the US West Coast ports stand-off is over but shipments are still way behind schedule owing to the backlog accumulated over the past eight months.
After the People’s Congress earlier this month, Beijing has decided not to pursue high GDP growth; in fact, many people were wondering about pursuing even moderate growth.
And now I leave you to our Mirror reports, which are always well worth reading as they reflect the perspectives of industry leaders from around the world.
