BIR World Mirror on Non-Ferrous Metals - Issue August 2016
Prices now more stable and balanced
A portion of the European market is still enjoying its summer holidays while the Asian market is rebounding. Non-ferrous metals prices are more stable and balanced although volumes still show both low supply and demand.
The recent, very successful BIR Convention in Berlin saw a large attendance at our division’s plenary meeting, at which all the speakers provided us with valuable information on some very interesting topics. For this, I must praise the efforts of the working group which devised the programme for our Berlin meeting.
Our Round-Table gathering in Amsterdam is just around the corner and we will be inviting another three speakers to join our plenary format. There have been so many issues and developments of relevance to our industry over recent months, including Brexit, metal flows and the SOLAS international maritime safety treaty. At the same time, there are so many conferences and conventions around the world aimed at the recycling industry that if anyone was to try to attend them all, he or she would be flying around the globe virtually non-stop.
One of the established attractions of BIR, I must say, is our Mirror which covers the wide range of issues affecting our industry through the selfless contributions of board members representing the different markets. I thank them all for their efforts.
If you are embarking on or are soon to take your summer holidays, I hope you enjoy them.
