India moves in a similar direction to China

We had a very successful BIR World Convention in Dubai and a great turn-out. A couple of excellent speakers at our Non-Ferrous Metals Division meeting gave us highly educational presentations on two emerging markets: the Middle East and India. In addition, I’d like to thank the Bureau of Middle East Recycling for their members’ 100% support of our conference and to welcome our newly-elected board member Nick Rose, representing the UK.

As summer arrives in many parts of the world, it is traditionally time for a recess and it appears generally quiet on most fronts, with low-volume supply combining with low-volume demand to extend the pattern of the previous two years.

As two of the world’s largest consumers of scrap metals, China implemented CCIC pre-shipment inspections some 15 years ago while India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade is now also moving towards the same requirements. We will closely monitor any new developments on this.

After what will be the summer period for many of us, it will be time to set up the programme for our meeting in Prague. I wish you well in the meantime.
