Delhi meeting to focus on business in India

There wasn’t a dull moment during the midyear holiday period. China’s import policy on scrap metals is still under discussion among various departments in Beijing and the direction remains uncertain. In the meantime, the import permit renewals procedure has been put on hold by China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection, and so I would urge everyone to make sure your Chinese customers have the proper import permits available before shipment.

Mr Ma, our consultant in Beijing, has made several very clear reports on these issues in the Non-Ferrous Metals Mirror over the past year and I would like to convey our special thanks for his efforts. The BIR Convention in New Delhi is just around the corner. This is the first time our organisation has chosen India - one of our major markets but not without turbulence - as the venue for our convention. BIR is facing challenges here too in dealing with governmental issues, including the newly-inaugurated GST system.
