BIR World Mirror on Non-Ferrous Metals - October/November 2011
Disturbing picture of uncertainty
Scrap markets are often the first indicator of what’s to come in an economy, and current prices, although somewhat recovered from their recent lows, paint a disturbing picture of the uncertainty that prevails around the world.
As you read this Mirror, released at our Autumn Convention in Munich, markets are reacting to: the economic confusion in Europe; an American economy that is not showing many signs of improvement; and a Chinese market evidencing a pause as that country seeks to tighten credit while at the same time encouraging domestic consumer spending.
I hope that the words of our contributors are helpful to you in understanding what’s going on in our business around the world.
