BIR World Mirror on Recovered Paper / Quarterly Report - July 2013

PRESIDENT'S REPORT by Reinhold Schmidt, Recycling Karla Schmidt

Economy and ecology in perfect harmony

During the latest plenary meeting of the BIR Paper Division, attending delegates elected me as the new divisional President. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for this great sign of trust. At the same time, I would like to thank my predecessor Ranjit Singh Baxi for his extremely successful tenure which, for me, proved both stimulating and inspiring.

The main objective of my presidency will be to strengthen and enlarge the standing of the recovered paper industry. This will only be possible if all market participants are fully aware of their responsibilities: we can increase our influence only if we work together in a constructive manner and with mutual respect.

I do believe that the odds are in our favour as our industry serves as a perfect example of the harmonious interaction between economy and ecology.

An additional task for me as President will be to counter the increasing emergence of artificial barriers to the free and fair trade of recovered paper. Again, it is crucial that all stakeholders succeed in finding acceptable solutions for our common success.

I look forward very much to tackling these challenges, and kindly ask you to persevere with your trust and support so that together we can pave the way to a bright future for our recovered paper industry.
