Dear colleagues,

Our Miami meeting was a great success, with significant press coverage and positive feedback from those delegates who attended. My thanks go to Barry Hunter for his job as moderator. The overriding message was that scrap is enjoying robust demand from most consumers and that this might continue given the significant amount of nickel units being removed from the market as a result of the Indonesian ore export ban.

Elections in Indonesia have been completed and the ore ban looks set to remain in place. Refined nickel premiums in Europe and the USA have risen progressively on steady demand from stainless steel mills and export statistics indicate China may have been a net exporter of refined metal. This perhaps implies that there is no short-term deficit of nickel units appearing in a country that produces approximately 50% of the world’s stainless steel (...)
