China: additional import prohibitions for 32 types of solid waste

BIR reported in its News dated 23/04/2018 that all plastic waste and scrap, both industrial arisings and post-consumer scrap, will be prohibited for export to China by December 2018. This results from the prohibitions on imports to China of some 24 wastes that entered into force at the end of 2017 and the upcoming prohibition on industrial waste plastic set for 2019.

BIR informed its members first, but subsequently has been informing other Governments of these important changes.

These issues will be discussed in detail during the upcoming World Recycling Convention in Barcelona (28-30 May 2018) and more specifically at the International Trade Council meeting on Tuesday 29 May at 16.15 hrs.
