China’s NPC adopts revised environmental protection law

BIR would like to inform its members that on Thursday 9 May 2014, for the first time in 25 years, China's National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislator has adopted revisions to the 1989 Environmental Protection Law. The revised law is due to enter into effect on January 1st, 2015.

The environmental protection law is mainly of concern to Chinese companies and bears no direct consequences on international trade. However, it is likely that in future Chinese companies will increasingly look at working with environmentally conscious companies that are abiding by international environmental standards.

The text of the revised law is available in Chinese via the BIR Secretariat.
