Ferrous Division: High-profile guest speaker from McKinsey & Company to address BIR Singapore meeting
Under the presidency of Greg Schnitzer, the board of the BIR Ferrous Division has invited a high-profile speaker who will be addressing the audience at the divisional plenary meeting in Singapore on Tuesday, 21 May 2019 at 9.30.
Dr. Ir. Steven Vercammen is Senior Expert Metals & Mining at McKinsey & Company in Belgium. McKinsey & Company is an American worldwide management consulting firm. It conducts qualitative and quantitative analysis to evaluate management decisions across public and private sectors. Widely considered the most prestigious management consultancy, McKinsey's clientele includes 80% of the world's largest corporations, and an extensive list of governments and non-profit organisations.
Mr Vercammen joined the company in 2004 and during his professional career, he has always focused on the entire steel value chain covering raw materials, steel production and consumption trends. He is responsible for the "Steel Service Line", as part of the global Basic Materials Institute (BMI) within McKinsey & Company. This covers, amongst other topics, the overall global market dynamics throughout the steel value chain, from steelmaking raw materials down to product processing and fabrication. Recently, his main focus has been on the scrap market dynamics: pricing, trade and supply/demand. Mr Vercammen has written several articles on the steel industry and the importance of scrap. He holds a PhD in Materials science and Engineering.
Apart from Mr Vercammen’s presentation and first-hand market reports by divisional board members covering the main world regions, the meeting will also see the launch of the 10th edition of the Division’s statistical brochure “World Steel Recycling in Figures”. The main findings and conclusion will be presented by BIR Statistical Advisor Rolf Willeke.
