BIR World Mirror on Non-Ferrous Metals - N° 101
Come and join us!
Our Spring Convention in Singapore was extremely successful for the Non-Ferrous Metals Division. The Copper Symposium was very well received, and close to 500 participants at various parts of the presentations were treated to diverse points of view on the copper market. My thanks go out again to the speakers and to those who helped plan the event.
The Singapore Convention attracted delegates from all over the world in numbers rarely surpassed in the association’s history. Unfortunately, it also attracted a noticeable number of people who roam the lobbies, seeking business contacts, but who fail to register as delegates. It is difficult for the organization to do much about this, but our members certainly can.
I have told a number of people that if they can’t afford the registration, they likely can’t afford my scrap, and I refuse to meet with them. They are essentially reaping the rewards of other people’s labor, and I would suggest that the way to discourage them is to simply do as I do and refuse their advances. There are plenty of opportunities to meet people who show support of BIR by their membership, and who prove that support through registration at our Conventions.
I would encourage those who “poach” at our meetings to validate their viability by joining BIR!
