Special BIR Symposium
Tuesday, 24 May 2011, 9.30 am
Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore
"Copper .... the new Gold?
Which metal offers excellent resistance to corrosion and outstanding qualities as conductor of electricity? Which metal is put to a diversified industrial use including electronics? Which metal is characterised by considerable price volatility and is linked to the worries and expectations of the global economy?
The spontaneous answer to this would be GOLD. But in fact, these statements equally apply to COPPER.
Copper has always been of paramount importance for our industry. For thousands of years, copper and copper alloys have been amongst the most frequently recycled materials.
Today, in a highly fluctuating world economy, copper knows no boundaries. Although its price volatility is well known, it is still surprising that recently, LME copper was traded at almost USD 10 500 on February 7, 2011 whereas only a couple of years ago, at the end of 2008, its price was USD 2 770 .
The purpose of the BIR Symposium on Copper, which is organised by the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division, is to provide you with everything you have always wanted to know about copper and copper recycling, with the input from a high-profile panel of international copper experts. If you have registered for the BIR World Recycling Convention in Singapore, this Symposium is free of charge.
The first part of the programme will focus on the analysis of the major facts and statistics of the past decades, and the second part will bring forward a long term prospective market study.
Interested? The full programme will follow shortly.
