New Year’s message from BIR President Dominique Maguin:

 

Dear Fellow Members of BIR,

I would like to take this opportunity to extend to all of you my very best wishes for health, prosperity and success in 2008.

In the past year, our industry was again able to enjoy its place in the slipstream of a growing world economy. Most of our commodities could close 2007 with very positive results and perspectives for the coming months are promising.

In BIR, which I have been proud to serve as President since my election in Athens, all efforts are now focussing on the most memorable event in recent years, the 60th anniversary of our world organisation that will be celebrated in Monte Carlo from 2nd to 4th June 2008.

We intend to celebrate this milestone in the history of BIR with all the solemnity and also joy it deserves. H.S.H. Prince Albert has already granted us the honour of personally welcoming our attending delegates, which we can read as sign for the importance that recycling is gaining in the overall concept of sustainable development, a topic that H.S.H. Prince Albert is fervently committed to.

Moreover, we have invited keynote speakers of world renown to the General Assembly, whose names we will disclose as soon as their final acceptance is confirmed. Most Divisional Presidents and Committee Chairmen have already elaborated concepts for guest presentations that will prove to be highly topical for their respective commodity. And we also intend to offer workshops on subjects that benefit our delegates in their daily business.

And last but not least, we are working on an exceptionally festive social programme with a glamorous welcome reception in the Gardens of the Casino and an elegant Gala Dinner to honour the 60th anniversary of BIR.

I am certain that all those who will be joining us for this exceptional event will witness one of the most – if not THE most – impressive BIR Convention of all times.

I look forward to welcoming many of you in Monte Carlo!
