Russian authorities plan to extend export tariffs to non-ferrous metal scrap
BIR was informed that Russia plans to extend its export tariffs also to non ferrous metal scrap, as of 1 November 2008. We are not aware of the exact nature of these tariffs, and are awaiting further information.
Following BIR’s letter to the European Commission regarding Russia’s export tariffs on ferrous scrap (see news dated 4 August 2008), the EU institutions are addressing the issue with the Russian Government and do not exclude commercial action if Russia were to maintain these tariffs.
BIR will keep you informed on further developments in this matter.
