Historic challenges
While the usual discussion every four years at this time in the United States centers around the effects the Presidential Election results will have on our business, that discourse has taken a distant second seat to recent economic news and the uncertainty and impact that recent actions by the US Department of Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank will have on our trade.
The American economy, almost always resilient, is facing historic challenges as attempts are made to mitigate what will no doubt turn into: a continued tightening of credit; a decline in the American growth rate (or worse, a recession of greater proportion than many think we are currently experiencing) which until now has not been as negatively impacted as one would expect; and a potential international decline in demand for scrap.
