BIR Convention in Dubai: Optimistic outlook despite crisis

The 2009 World Recycling Convention and Exhibition that the Bureau of International Recycling is organising at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai  on May 25-27 is promising to be yet another successful event of the international recycling body.

Despite the global crisis and their undeniable impact on the recycling industry as well as on the economies of the Middle and Far East, the BIR convention is likely to attract over 700 businesspeople, of which a large number will come from the Middle East. So far, 400 delegates have registered, with the deadline for the ‘early-bird’ discount and convention hotel accommodation approaching on 23rd March.

Regarding the speakers’ programme, BIR has invited international experts and personalities to give their views on a variety of topics, amongst which the situation on the local markets in the Middle East, the role of the LME in a turbulent stainless steel market, the perspectives of the banking sector etc.

For the moment, one workshop has been set up that will be focussing on Credit Insurance. The topic has gained enormous importance since the beginning of the global crisis with many companies struggling with their local banks to keep receiving the credits necessary for their daily business, and an interesting panel of speakers will discuss specific aspects of interest to the recycling community.

The international recycling exhibition showcases the most important machine & equipment manufacturers and service providers. With over 30 stands, the exhibition is amongst the larger ones that BIR has organised so far and most of it is already sold out.
