Sims Metal Management continues as a Founding Sponsor of Global Recycling Day

Global Recycling Foundation is proud to announce that the world’s largest metal recycler, Sims Metal Management, has continued as Founding Sponsor of Global Recycling Day for the second year running.

Sims Metal Management is a world leader in metal and electronics recycling, an emerging leader in the municipal recycling and renewable energy industries, and a keen supporter of the Global Recycling Day initiative. Established more than 100 years ago, Sims Metal Management has approximately 250 facilities on five continents and more than 5,000 highly skilled employees across the world.

The second Global Recycling Day will take place on 18th March 2019, with the theme “Recycling into the Future” which will focus on young people and innovation.  It aims to encourage everyone to recognise the role we can all play in better recycling practices and improving the circular economy.

Global Recycling Day aims to educate the world to take a more active role in better recycling practices and preserving the future of the planet. On the 18th March, official Global Recycling Day events will take place in numerous cities around the world, including a #RecyclingGoals challenge on Carnaby Street - harnessing the power of football to inspire long term recycling habits in young people.

Founding President of Global Recycling Foundation, Ranjit Baxi, says: “We are really pleased to have Sims Metal Management as a continued Founding Sponsor of Global Recycling Day. The Company’s values and commitment to recycling, and to promoting the global circular economy align with the goals of Global Recycling Foundation, so it’s a perfect match.”

Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Sims Metal Management, Elise Gautier, says: “Sims Metal Management is proud to be a Founding Sponsor of Global Recycling Day and to show support to the Global Recycling Foundation for bringing awareness to the importance of recycling in order to preserve our planet’s finite natural resources.

“As a global leader in the recycling industry, sustainability and corporate social responsibility are fully integrated into our business strategy and culture. Global Recycling Day reminds us that we are all stewards of our world’s resources and need to do more to keep resources in use as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them while in use, and then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of their useful life.”
