Shanghai Futures Exchange expert speaks on ‘Developing Steel Futures for a Stronger Economy’

The Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) is one of the largest commodities markets in China. The exchange lists contracts in steel, copper, aluminium, natural rubber, fuel oil, zinc and gold, and was ranked sixth among world derivatives exchange by the Futures Industry Association in 2016, with total volume of 1,680,711,8 contracts, up 60 percent from a year earlier.

Honouring the importance of the SHFE, the BIR Ferrous Division under the presidency of Bill Schmiedel (Sims Management Global Trade, USA) has invited Dr. Chen Ye to take the floor during the divisional plenary session, which will take place on Tuesday, 23 May 2017 at 9.00.

Dr Chen Ye, who will speak on ‘Developing steel futures for a stronger economy’, is Advanced Manager of Commodity Department I at the Shanghai Futures Exchange and has been a staff member on R&D of commodity derivatives since 2007. He has been mainly engaged in design and list of rebar futures, wire rod futures and hot rolled coil futures contracts.

The plenary session will also feature an overview of the current and future international steel and ferrous scrap market situation in major regions, and the presentation of the 8th edition of “World Steel Recycling in Figures 2012-2016” by BIR Statistics Advisor Rolf Willeke.
