BIR World Recycling Convention in Warsawb (Autumn Round-Table Sessions) 27-29 Oct. 2013

Ferrous Division: Trade barriers for steel scrap – a global trend?

At BIR’s upcoming World Recycling Convention in Warsaw, the BIR Ferrous Division under the presidency of Christian Rubach, TSR (Germany) will address the looming trend for barriers in the international steel scrap trade using the example of the EU and other countries.

Two guest speakers will take the floor to give their views on the topic:

Dr Veysel Yayan is the Secretary General of the Turkish Steel Producers Association, the Board Chairman of the Construction Research Association and the Chairman of the Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Committee at The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. During his presentation, he will comment the trends in the international steel trade with a special focus on recent developments in Europe. The Turkish Steel Producers Association, which was founded in 1970, has 25 member companies who represent 98% of Turkey’s total crude steel production (figures 2012).

As second guest speaker, the Ferrous Division invited Marcel Genet, founder and manager of Laplace Conseil, a consulting firm for strategic and operational management specialised in metal and mineral industries. Mr Genet will be focusing on the assessment of the implications of the EU Commission’s Steel Action Plan, which proposes a series of measures that aim to shore up the EU steel industry’s long term competitiveness.

A subsequent panel discussion will be moderated by Sean Davidson, Global Scrap Editor of the Metal Bulletin Group. In a Q&A session, the audience can participate by commenting or asking questions.
